אתמול, צוין כמו בכל שנה ברחבי העולם יום 'מרקוס גארבי'. ב17 באוגוסט 1887 נולד אדם גדול, אדם שהחזיר לשחורים ברחבי העולם את הגאווה האפריקאית, אחד מהדמויות המשפיעות ביותר לאורך ההיסטוריה של האדם השחור, אם לא המשפיע ביותר. לרוב כשחושבים על שוויון וזכויות השחורים ברחבי העולם אנחנו חושבים על דמויות כמו מרטין לותר קינג, מלקולם אקס ונלסון מנדלה, אבל היה זה מרקוס גארבי שנתן את הדחיפה הראשונה והמשמעותית לקידום הנושא. בגיל 24 הוא כבר קנה לעצמו מוניטין כעיתונאי, ופעיל פוליטי מקומי בג'מייקה בה נולד. בגיל 27 הקים את ה"UNIA" – אגודה בינלאומית לקידום זכויות השחורים ברחבי העולם. הוא הקים את חברת...
